1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device when you visit a website. Cookies allow websites to remember your preferences, recognise you on return visits, and measure how the site is used. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixels; this policy covers all of them.
2. Why we use them
We use cookies and similar technologies for four purposes:
- Strictly necessary — keeping the site functional, remembering form input, securing your session.
- Preferences — remembering your selected map region, language, or display options.
- Analytics — understanding which pages are useful and where the experience can improve.
- Embedded-locator telemetry — the locators embedded on our customers’ sites use cookies to capture search heatmaps and zero-result intelligence on behalf of that customer.
We do not use cookies for advertising, retargeting, or selling data to third parties.
3. Cookie categories
3.1 Strictly necessary
These cookies are essential for the platform to function. They cannot be switched off without breaking core features.
3.2 Functional / Preferences
These cookies remember choices you make — e.g. your selected country, preferred language, dark/light mode — to provide a more personalised experience.
3.3 Analytics
These cookies collect aggregated information about how visitors use the platform. The data is not linked back to identifiable individuals on our side.
3.4 Embedded-locator telemetry
When you visit a bank’s website that embeds our locator, our embedded locator sets first-party cookies on that domain to capture search and interaction patterns. The bank is the data controller for this data; we process it on their behalf, configured according to their settings.
4. Cookies we set on locator-map.com
lmp_session— strictly necessary · session-only · maintains your session as you navigate the site.lmp_pref— functional · 6 months · remembers preferences such as country, language, and accepted cookie categories.lmp_consent— strictly necessary · 12 months · records your cookie-banner choices so we don’t ask again.lmp_anon_id— analytics · 13 months · a randomly-generated anonymous identifier used for aggregated usage analytics. It is not linked to your name or email.
Cookies set by our embedded locators on customer websites are namespaced per-customer and are described in the locator-specific cookie notice that each customer publishes.
5. Third-party cookies
We try to minimise third-party cookies. The third parties whose cookies may be set during your visit:
- OpenStreetMap — serves the map tiles. May set cookies on their domain when tiles are loaded.
- Google Fonts — supplies typefaces. We use
fonts.gstatic.comwhich sets minimal cookies. - Cloudflare — in some regions, used as a security and performance proxy; sets necessary security cookies.
We do not embed Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, LinkedIn Insight, or any advertising trackers on locator-map.com.
6. How to control cookies
You can control cookies in three ways:
- Via our consent banner — on first visit you can choose which categories to allow. You can change your choices any time by clicking “Cookie preferences” in the footer.
- Via your browser — modern browsers let you block or delete cookies via Settings → Privacy. Note that blocking strictly-necessary cookies will break parts of the site.
- Via your device — mobile operating systems offer additional privacy controls (Limit Ad Tracking, Privacy Sandbox, etc.).
7. Changes
If we materially change the cookies we use, we will update this page and, where required, present a new consent banner to capture your fresh choices.
